FAQs

Questions we get asked

If yours is not here, email us at alex@thurlex.com.

Do your knives open automatically?

No. Every Thurlex folding knife and multitool blade opens manually and locks. We do not make or sell automatic or assisted-opening knives.

Are your tools legal where I live?

Knife and blade rules vary by state, county and city, and they change. Owning or carrying a tool can be regulated where you live even where buying it is not. You are responsible for knowing the rules that apply to you, and we cannot advise on them. See Legal Information for our age policy and where we ship.

What is covered by the warranty?

Manufacturing defects and material flaws, for one year from purchase. Normal wear, rust, cosmetic marks and misuse are not. It's a shorter term than Leatherman (25 years) or Gerber (lifetime) offer — we're a new, two-person company and would rather commit to a year we can actually fund than a longer number we couldn't. Full detail on the Limited Warranty page.

Where are your tools made?

Guangdong, China. Thurlex itself — Thurlex Outdoor LLC — is a California company; we work directly with manufacturers there rather than through a reseller.

How do I sharpen a folding blade without ruining the edge?

Keep a consistent angle, use light pressure, and strop regularly rather than waiting until it is blunt. Full guide on the Support page.

Does blade steel matter?

It's a trade-off between how long an edge lasts and how easily you can put it back. Harder steels hold an edge longer and take more work to sharpen; softer steels dull sooner but come back quickly with a strop and a few minutes. For most people carrying a tool daily, easy to resharpen beats maximum edge retention. If you want the specific steel used on a particular model, email alex@thurlex.com and we'll tell you.

How do returns work?

Seven days from delivery, no restocking fee, on unused tools in their original packaging. Return shipping is on you unless the item arrived damaged, defective, or wrong — then we pay both ways. Engraved and personalised items can't be returned. See Returns & Refunds.

How long does shipping take?

Orders ship the next business day. Delivery estimates and rates are on the Shipping page.

Do you ship internationally?

Not yet. We ship to US addresses only.

Can I buy replacement parts?

Replaceable parts — like the Summit Pro's wire cutter inserts — are covered by the same one-year warranty as the tool itself. Email us with your order number and photos and we'll confirm coverage. Outside that first year, we don't currently offer separate replacements. One difference from a full-tool claim: on a parts claim, return shipping to us is on you, rather than covered both ways — see the Limited Warranty page for detail.
